NIMC has Debunk Rumours that the National Identity Database was Breached

NIMC spokesman, Kayode Adegoke, made it clear that NIMC database is secure he clarified this in a statement titled, ‘NIMC Data Not Breached’.

The statement reads: “The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) would like to bring the attention of the members of the general public that the purported breach of the National Identity Database going round the social media is false, a hoax and of mischievous.

“The NIMC would like to assure the public that there have been no such breaches or incidents. Investigations on the alleged data dump were found to be non-existent in the National Identity Database.

“The Commission investigated the data breach claim and found out that the database schema presented by the adversary does not tally with the exiting schema of NIMC records. The data being posted by criminals purporting to contain citizens’ information is false.

“The NIMC guarantees the security of the National Identity Database through various layers of security and can assure that no data was breached.

“The members of the general public, are, therefore enjoined to refrain from spreading false report on the purported data breach.”

In recent news the Federal Government had set a December 31st deadline for all service providers to re-register all SIM cards with the NIN.

However, the Federal Government extended the deadline by 6 weeks to allow for more time for Nigerians to register for their NIN and eventually link it to their phone numbers.
