Coronavirus Outbreak: Apple Closes Stores in China

Tensions continue to rise in the world as the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus epidemic as a public health emergency of international concern. Apple assembles its iPhones in China and has ordered the closure of its corporate offices, stores and contact centres in mainland China through February 9.

So far, over 300 deaths have been recorded due to the outbreak with majority coming from Hubei China. A first death outside of China has also been recorded with 14,000 people infected in total. Apple says the move is borne out of “abundance of caution and based on the latest advice from leading health experts.”

Other companies are following the same move, Qantas Airways Ltd which is the largest Airline in Australia and Cebu Air Inc, Philippines’ largest budget carrier has stopped flights to China.

It’s no longer news, US President, Donald Trump has restricted entry from the US to foreign nationals who have travelled to China within the last 14 days in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Apple online store remains open in China and as the world finds a permanent solution to combat the virus.
